Big weekend

Hi all, we worked in one of our studios this weekend. We've been driving back and forth from phoenix for the state tennis tournament and tiling in our studio before and after which has meant early mornings, late nights and a lot of laying Clair down on the ground while we work. I am, consequently, now sick. And I was just sick a week ago so I hope this is not a sign of things to come.




Clair rode in her stroller for the first time. You can see she is very excited about her big adventure to Circle K. I'm sure someday I will look back and remember longingly when a trip to Circle K could make her smile like that. Or, more true to the situation, when one look at me could make her smile like that!

Like I said...a lot of laying the baby on the ground. My folks came over and baby sat her all evening so she could be entertained ad hugged a bit. For some reason they seem to like hanging out with her...

New shirt

We had the second day of state tennis today and ricky and I got to hang out with our friends Jason and amy and their three awesome boys! Food!

Rice Cereal Day! The overall theme was rice cereal...cry...bottle...suck suck suck...rice cereal...cry. My mom said she did fine though. It looked to me like she didn't like it much but she did know how to swallow it and I think she finished off a whole little bowl.

Housekeeping

I broke down and set up a scheduled housekeeper to visit to our house. I'm suddenly so much less stressed. God bless Mark Driscoll. His wife isn't organized either.

Weekend fun

This weekend was our women's retreat at church. I might blog about that later.

It was so great. I have a picture or two...


Cindy was our music. I love her voice. And the songs were some of my faces.


Michele and Nancy hosted. Nancy was my roommate. She likes to hold Clair. Michele did a gum wall like in Seattle and SLO for us as an ice breaker. It was brilliant.



Clair slept in a drawer...who needs to lug around pack and plays when your child could sleep in the furniture?

And Karen came this weekend. Yay. I love Karen.

Improvements

So, I know none of you saw my "before" office but, trust me, this is marked improvement. I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.




Do you see that floor? It hasn't been visible for over two months!




The last of my sort/file/shred boxes. I put stuff in boxes to shred when we got married that I'm just now opening up to sort through.




Saintly child--I really am doing this with her best interest in mind!

Airports and sick days

Tonight is one of those nights where I really need to be productive. I even had my parents watch Clair longer than usual so I could work in our office but I'm just so sick I can't really function. And not sick like you should feel sorry for me just sick like I'm a big wimp and this little head cold is just kicking my butt. I just want to nurse my throbbing sinuses and sit in bed and watch cartoons...instead I'm buying groceries but that's good because we can actually eat now. You know it's bad when we're stealing from Rob.
Awesome me lost my bag again. I'm still looking for it so I had to go to the airport to get ricky's card and they had a cancelled flight and a delayed flight so he couldn't see me right away. This is Ricky and Clair in Ricky's office when he finally got some time away from the gate!

Cody and ricky and I are studying the Bible tonight. We had sword drills and ricky won so Cody has to wash his car. Now we are watching the prince of egypt to learn about Moses

closing down for the day

There is not a lot new going on in our life right now...Ricky is finishing up his class-one step closer to graduation. I'm working and feeding our baby, occasionally working out and getting panicked about the amount of crap constantly all up in my space. Cody just finished his last tennis match of the high school season and is getting ready to go to the state tournament. Ooh, which means I get to take a day off of work...sweet!

However, in my head swim many thoughts. Thoughts about life and raising kids. How to rearrange our house and what I should be planning to work on tomorrow at my job. I constantly run numbers to figure out when we will be out of debt and I pray and ask God to help me be a good mom. I plan out our electrical system and think about when I'm going to change out the pads on our swamp cooler before it gets too warm. I stress about not working out enough and then stress more about what I'm going to cook for dinner and if we really need to buy that large tube of ground beef or if I can get away with just making breakfast for dinner all week. I'm reading a book called Raising a child with soul (or something like that) and it is feeding this innate desire inside of me to see my baby grow up loving the Lord and loving people. I have decided that we will block our house off next year and make the back half a two room apartment and we will live in the front half...by ourselves...for the first time ever. I helped Cody finish filing his taxes tonight and realized that taxes are no big deal and I will never stress about them again. But, in the midst of filing them I lost an important paper of Cody's and again began to stress about the amount of crap in our office. Piles of crap. I have to get them cleaned before this weekend because Karen is coming to visit. And the women's retreat from church is this weekend. I double booked my weekend. How does an adult person do that, I ask myself? And then I go through a series of not even thought but definitely there thoughts regarding my responsibility levels and why I continually make the same mistakes over and over. Still haven't decided what I'm going to do about the double-booking. Karen is coming from Seattle but I paid for the women's retreat and was really looking forward to it. And I lost my office phone--somewhere in all of my crap. I have the most beautiful baby in the whole world...but I can't tell her that once she gets bigger because she might get vain and I don't want that. But she is beautiful.
And now my mind is empty. Think I will go read about the Lies Women Believe. Tomorrow I will clean my office. Tonight I will clean my kitchen...and then go read...or maybe just go to sleep.

Tonight I babysat for our friends Kristina and Taylor so they could go out without their little Gavin. It was fun to see another baby in action. We hung out and he cried the whole time. Prior to having my own kid, this would have stressed me out, but now that I have Clair it was totally no big deal. And, I got him to smile and engage in some toys on the excersaucer. I felt like king of the world...then he figured out I wasn't his mom and the toys weren't nearly as interesting anymore.

Anyways, I'm over here at my Mom and Dad's house and they're putting up new kitchen cabinets. I'm about to help install. The cabinets have been chilling out in their living room for the last week so, needless to say, my mom is excited to see them go up.

We also got some pictures from Chris Richards of our family. He came over and snapped a couple shots on our porch the other day and dropped them off in an envelope this afternoon. Here are a few of my faves.

Passover

Passover Dinner was tonight. I've never done Passover before but I realized tonight that I would love to do it again as Clair gets a bit bigger. The traditions of my faith are very interesting to me and I have always been fascinated by Jewish history. I learned a lot tonight and would like to do some more reading on the Passover and some of the symolism contained inside the ceremony. I love the fact that Jesus performed Passover and that He was also the Passover Lamb.

Here's to Easter! It's not just about cute fuzzy bunnies.

birthday fun

So, today's my birthday. I'm 29. Almost the big 30. It is so different now that facebook rules the world and reminds people it's your birthday. I kind of like it. I generally love my birthday and spend the three weeks before hand reminding everybody but this year I almost forgot about it entirely. Funny how a baby changes things.
I spent the day at work. I was supposed to have lunch with my dad but he left his cell phone at home so I called him and when I didn't hear back I left for the restaurant at what I thought was our usual time, hoping to meet him there. Well, after 20 minutes I left the restaurant and went back to work, calling him every 5 minutes until I realized there was no way he had his phone and we weren't getting together for lunch. That's when I got Jimmy Johns and ran back to make a 1 o'clock meeting. After my meeting I organized some paperwork and sent a few emails then jetted out of work early at 3. Heather and Mike gave me a gift certificate to Target so I went shopping (I can't hold on to gift cards...it's like they burn holes in my pockets if I keep them) and picked up some shelves for our bathroom. However, when I told Ricky I got shelves, he said I could spend a few extra buckeroos and get an actual cabinet...I love him. So, despite the fact that I hate returning things, I will be toting my little shelves back to Target tomorrow and replacing them with a full fledged bathroom cabinet complete with closed drawer and two open shelves. After Target, my mom and I walked to Cody's tennis match, which he won, and then back home and no anchovies with the fam for my birthday dinner. This is where I discovered my Dad had gone to the restaurant a little after 11:20 and waited 45 minutes for me to show up. Sad.

That was all very exciting but what I waited all day to do was work on this quilt that I started a few weeks ago. I have really been enjoying the challenge and I can see the end in sight so I was bound and determined to finish it tonight. Well....I ran out of thread so that's not going to happen. But, I did take some pictures of it so you can see it. I decided not to put batting inbetween the layers because my favorite quilt from college doesn't have batting and due to the fact that it is not as thick as a regular blanket it becomes very versatile. Anyways, I'm hoping to get it finished and in the mail this weekend. You can see the pictures below. I went with 6" blocks and then lined the outside with 4 inch strips. The whole back is one big piece of fabric and since I'm not adding any batting, I decided it would be fun to add a pattern. I tried to make it look like a flower garden along the bottom edge. It is exceptionally girlie...which I love.

And, for everyone who wants to know about Clair, she has started "talking". I've decided this is my favorite of all her tricks. She also has graduated to 3 month clothes right on schedule. She has started to hold onto things when you put them by her hands.

And, for all of you who have ever tried to park in our back lot and jacked up the underside of your car...I am pleased to announce the city has finally come to their senses and we're getting new sidewalks this year! yee-haw. It's about time, I tell you.
